Sashiko Embroidery Class - Saturday September 22, 10am-12:00pm
Learn the beautiful art of Sashiko embroidery, a hand-stitching technique popularized in Japan early on as a technique for mending, and then as an art form at this class taught by instructor Diana Cathcart of The Textile Creative at Gather Studios in downtown Cary. Sashiko is characterized by clean, geometric patterns made of small, even stitches in white thread on an indigo cloth. During this class we will discuss basic pattern-making techniques, how sashiko was performed traditionally, and we’ll explore modernized applications of the art form. Students will have the opportunity to produce several samples during our time together.
