Furikake is a seasoning made with sesame seeds, dried seaweed, salt and sometimes dried fish and it's often used to season rice and also really good on avocado toast. We carry it at the shop and this blend made by North Carolina spice brand Spicewalla but you can also find it at any Japanese grocery store as well. I happened upon this snack mix a few years ago when I was looking for an alternative to the common snack mix that was both sweet and savory. This type of snack mix is especially popular in Hawaii. This recipe comes from Onolicious but I modified proportions a little.

This recipe makes A TON, I would half it for sure unless you want to gift it to everyone you know. It is a great snack mix to serve at parties.

Sweet and Salty Furikake Snack Mix:

1 box wheat chex

1 box corn chex

1 box honeycomb cereal

1 bag fritos

1 bag bugles

1 bag pretzels

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup maple syrup

1/3 cup vegetable oil

2 tablespoons soy sauce

A container of furikake

Preheat the oven to 250F. On two very large baking pans divide all the dry snack ingredients between both pans (chex, Fritos, bugles, pretzels).

In saucepan, melt the butter, then add in the maple syrup, vegetable oil,  soy sauce and container of furikake. Stir to combine.

Pour syrup mixture over pans in equal amounts, stir to combine.

Bake at 250F for 1 hour but take the pans out every 20 minutes to stir well and make sure each piece is evenly coated and the syrup mixture is evenly distributed.

Remove from the oven and enjoy.

This snack mix goes especially well with a lime jalapeño mocktail and you can find that recipe here. It also looks super cute served in our tortoiseshell glass snack bowl.
